About us
promoting independence for blind and visually impaired children
Our programs are designed to teach skills blind children need to learn in order to succeed academically, prepare for college and careers, and to live independently.
What we do
we aspire to help blind and visually impaired children realize their potential and abilities
Our various programs encourage confidence in each student's ability to pursue education and careers. Expanded Core Programs are unique and hands-on, providing students with the skilled attention necessary to master difficult tasks. Sports Programs teach conditioning, strength, coordination, and awareness of personal fitness. The opportunity to be in a group environment of peers who are just like them helps to develop leadership skills.
The greatest outcome of UFBVI's progams is having blind and visually impaired children realize their potential and abilites.
Where we come from
History of UFBVI
UFB was founded in 1988 by Tony Jepson, a teacher of the visually impaired, who recognized an increased need for specific educational services for blind students. Tony, and other professionals in the field of blindness, volunteered their time to provide high quality programs and services that blind and visually impaired children do not receive anywhere else.
UFB has relied heavily on its network of devoted volunteers to run programs, events and operations. Over the years, UFB's programs grew exponentially. As needs were identified, camps and workshops were added, enhancing the breadth of UFB's services and reaching even more children across the state of Utah.
