Help Make Reading Fun for Your Children--try some of these ideas:

- Read with your child. Take turns reading paragraphs or pages.

- Sometimes very short material may not seem as daunting to read as a longer book.

- Read some fun children's poety.

- Make a "reading hut" in your house or outside--just for reading.

- Set a reading goal (such as 20 days of reading at least 30 minutes) and when the goal is met do a fun activity such at going to the zoo or the water park. (You might have already been planning to do this activity anyway!)

- Talk about some of the fun books you have read.

Governor's Summer Reading Calendar Adapted

Merrilee Peterson from Davis School District, and a member of UFB's Board of Directors, has adapted the Governor's summer reading program. The file can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. Feel free to use this resource as you see fit.

We encourage students to have fun reading this summer whether in Braille, large print, or using low vision aids. Reading IS fun and hopefully families can do things that will encourage their children to read and improve this critical skill.
