Junior Blind Olympics

UFB is happy to be planning this annual event in cooperation with USDB. The Junior Blind Olympics give legally blind children an opportunity to participate ad compete in recreational and athletic events. They are grouped according to age and ability level for the following events.

     Archery (ages 6-19)
     Soccer Throw (ages 6-12)
     Rock Climbing (ages 10-19)
     Rowing (ages 6-19)
     Goalball (ages 6-19)
     Long Jump (ages 6-19)
     Shot Put (ages 13-19)
     50-Yard Dash (ages 6-19)

*Participants must be ten years of age or older to participate with us and travel on the bus to Los Angeles. Younger children can participate if parents wish to take them to the event on their own.

All participants need to be physically able to participate in the events and be independent with taking medications, eating, dressing, etc. with minimal prompting.

Departure and Return: We will leave Thursday evening and return early Monday morning. The bus will stop at locations along Interstate 15 to pick up and drop off students as needed.

Itinerary:  Thursday Night: Travel to Los Angeles on bus
       Friday: California Science Center (Many fun activities including the Space Shuttle Endeavour
        Saturday: Junior Blind Olympics
        Sunday:   Magic Mountain
 
       Sunday Night:  Travel home

Application: There are links to the registration forms on the right side of this page. There are three files that should be downloaded. The registration form and the popcorn sales form are due back to UFB by February 22nd. No Exceptions.

***NEW*** Training Form: Each applicant will need to participate in at least ten “training” sessions prior to the event. The workout sessions should concentrate on skills that will help prepare the child to participate in the specific events at the Junior Blind Olympics. They can be done at UFB’s goalball practices, at USDB’s Short Term Programs, or at school in PE classes or with an adaptive PE specialist. Please see the Training Form and additional information at ufbvi.org. Interested students can begin working on this immediately.

Chaperones: There will be approximately one chaperone for every three to four students. If you are interested in being a chaperone please see the chaperone form.
