Independent Living Skills Programs
The Utah Foundation for the Blind recognizes
that learning to be independent in daily tasks is critical to the
development, self esteem, and the success of visually impaired
children. We are committed to help these children learn skills in all
areas of daily living that will help them accomplish age appropriate
tasks and lead to independence.
New Partnership for In-Home Instruction
UFB has formed a partnership with the Utah Council of the Blind, the Ogden Association of the Blind, and the state Division of Services for the Blind to expand the availability of daily living skills instruction. Through this partnership teams of mentor teachers are available throughout Utah to work with blind and visually impaired individuals.UFB's efforts in the program are towards children, but services are available to those of any age. Once referred, a team of two mentors will arrange to visit the home and discuss with the parents and student the areas where they feel some instruction or assistance would be beneficial. These teams are trained to offer ideas and work closely with the family as well as provide information about other resources. There is no cost for this service.

UFB Independent Living Skills Teacher Grants Available
The Utah Foundation for the Blind has grants available to Teachers of the Visually Impaired in Utah who would like to provide small group instruction in areas of independent living skills. These grants are meant to facilitate instructional activities that would otherwise not be able to take place. They may be either one time or on-going activities.
